The first steps to your perfect smile

Your journey begins with a warm welcome from our treatment coordinator, who will introduce you to the practice and take photos of your face and teeth. These records help us assess your smile and track progress throughout treatment. If needed, we may refer for an OPG and lateral cephalogram x-ray to examine developing or unerupted teeth. Your specialist orthodontist will then perform a thorough clinical exam, review your records, and talk you through your treatment options, including the benefits and any considerations for braces or Invisalign.

  • how appointments work

Invisalign®

Getting started with Invisalign is simple and comfortable. Using advanced digital scans, we’ll create a customised treatment plan and series of clear aligners designed to gradually move your teeth into position. You’ll wear your aligners for 20–22 hours per day, removing them only for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

As your treatment progresses, you’ll switch to a new set of aligners approximately every 1–2 weeks. Regular check-ups every 8–14 weeks allow us to monitor your progress and ensure your treatment stays on track.

Braces

Getting your metal braces fitted is a simple and painless procedure, usually scheduled in the mornings or afternoons as it takes some time. Each bracket is glued to your teeth and connected with a wire that gently moves your teeth into place over time. You may feel some tenderness in the days after, so a soft diet and iced water (not ice chewing!) can help ease discomfort.

Your orthodontist will show you how to brush and floss with braces to prevent decay and staining. Today’s metal braces are smaller and more comfortable, but we’ll also give you orthodontic wax to ease any irritation as you adjust. You’ll visit us every 6 to 10 weeks for routine adjustments.

Orthodontic Appliances

Orthodontic appliances are often used before or alongside braces or Invisalign to help guide jaw growth, create space for developing teeth, or correct specific bite concerns. Depending on your treatment plan, your appliance may be fixed in place or removable.

We’ll show you exactly how to wear and care for your appliance, and regular appointments will ensure everything is progressing as planned. Following your orthodontist’s instructions is important to achieve the best possible outcome and keep treatment on schedule.

  • DURING YOUR TREATMENT

Care during your treatment

You’ll visit iSmile regularly to check progress and adjust your braces or aligners. Mild discomfort is normal after adjustments, and speech may be affected briefly. Invisalign is more flexible, allowing normal eating and brushing.

You will need to continue with your 6-12 month check ins and cleanings with your dentist.

  • Avoid hard foods (e.g. apples, carrots, ice)
  • Skip anything sticky (e.g. toffee, peanut butter)
  • Rinse or drink water after meals
  • Use a mirror to check for trapped food
  • Report any breakages promptly
  • Wear your aligners as much as possible

Emergency visits

Sometimes braces break or something goes wrong. In these instances, we recommend booking an emergency visit so you don’t impact your treatment. Please note, we do not take walk-in appointments.
