If you never had the opportunity to have orthodontic treatment as a child and would love a straighter smile, you might be wondering if it’s too late to do anything about it. Fortunately, there are actually a number of adult orthodontic treatments currently available. While it’s ideal to have orthodontic issues resolved at a young age if possible, research shows that braces are often just as effective on adults as they are on children. Read on to find out what your options are…
If you struggle with a bad bite or crowded teeth, you might consider orthodontic treatment. These issues can actually make it difficult to clean your teeth properly and can be contributing factors to tooth decay and gum disease. Crooked teeth can also cause abnormal jaw pain and pressure, both of which can be very uncomfortable. Besides the fact that having straight teeth benefits one’s oral health, there are also aesthetic advantages to straightening your smile.
At iSmile Orthodontics, we offer a range of different braces. These include ceramic braces, traditional metal braces and invisible braces. The type of treatment that suits you best will depend on a number of factors, including your lifestyle, aesthetic goals and budget. Here’s what to expect from each treatment:
Traditional metal braces are a very effective orthodontic treatment when it comes to straightening teeth and resolving issues with a problematic bite. Thanks to advancements in the field of orthodontics, traditional braces are much more comfortable than before and are not as bulky as they once were. We provide braces made from high-grade stainless steel and work with a self-litigating system so you don’t have to come in for appointments as frequently as before.
Ceramic braces are very similar to traditional braces in terms of design, but they are made with clear brackets which makes them much more discreet. Ceramic braces are often a great choice for our adult patients because they are much less visible on the teeth than metal braces. It is important to note that while ceramic braces are less noticeable than metal braces, they do tend to require more diligent oral hygiene. They are also more brittle than metal braces and are typically recommended for use on the upper front teeth, rather than the lower teeth.
At iSmile Orthodontics, we offer Invisalign. The treatment is suited to patients who would like a very discreet orthodontic treatment. In fact, the clear aligners are barely visible and no one will even know that you are having your teeth straightened. Invisalign works by gradually moving the teeth into new positions with the use of an aligner made from medical-grade plastic. You will need to wear your aligner for up to 22 hours a day in order to achieve the best possible results, but you may remove it for eating, drinking and brushing your teeth.
